Become a library member
Becoming a Member
Membership of the library service is free to all Blaenau Gwent residents. You can join at any branch of the library by presenting proof of your name and current address. There is no minimum age for joining, but those under the age of 16 years will need to join at a library branch as we require a signature from their parent or guardian.
Register Online
Join the library online by clicking on the button below after you have read and accepted the membership conditions. Once registered and confirmed your Pin, you will receive a welcome message containing your temporary library number. You will need this information to access your account, and to start using e-books, e-audiobooks, e-magazines, e-newspapers, and online resources straight away.
Following your first visit to the library with proof of ID, we will upgrade you to full library membership which allows you to borrow books and other items, and access library computers.
Conditions of Membership
To borrow items you must present your library membership card.
Most items can be borrowed for three weeks.
You can borrow up to 20 items on your card. These can be borrowed from and returned to any branch of the library service.
Items can be renewed up to 3 times at any branch or online via the library service online catalogue.
Staff are happy to renew items over the telephone during opening hours, please have your library card number on hand. If a reservation has been placed on an item you have on loan, a renewal is not permitted.
Overdue notices are a courtesy reminder for your convenience.
A reservation and/or inter-library loan service is available for those items which are on loan, available at another branch or at another library service. You can place your own reservations for most items at our branches or through the library service online catalogue.
You may be charged for any items lost or damaged whilst in your care. All costs incurred by the library due to items being lost or damaged must be reimbursed.
If you change your address or name, please notify us immediately.
Please report lost cards to the library immediately. You will be held responsible for any items borrowed before the loss is reported.
Membership details are confidential and will not be disclosed to other parties without permission.
